METROPLEX AQUATICS LOCKER ROOM POLICIES

PURPOSE

These guidelines are designed to maintain personal privacy and reduce the risk of misconduct in locker rooms and changing areas.

FACILITIES

We practice at multiple facilities with varied locker room configurations. Most locations have changing areas shared with the general public. Therefore, swimmers may encounter individuals not associated with Metroplex Aquatics. Parents should consider this when deciding whether their child should use the facility’s locker room, rather than showering and changing before or after practice.

MONITORING

General Policy Considerations

  • Coaches and staff monitor athletes when they go to the locker room or changing area during practice or competition. If an athlete does not return in a timely manner, staff will check on their whereabouts.
  • Parents are discouraged from entering locker rooms or changing areas unless necessary. In such cases, only a same-sex parent should enter, and the coach or administrator should be notified in advance.
  • If an athlete needs assistance with uniforms or gear (e.g., children under age eight) or has a disability requiring help, parents should inform the coach or administrator beforehand.

Locker Room Oversight

  • Metroplex Aquatics has staggered practices, with groups arriving and leaving throughout the day. Continuous monitoring of locker rooms is not practical.
  • Coaches or staff do not remain inside or at the doors of locker rooms but conduct occasional sweeps. Female staff monitor female locker rooms, and male staff monitor male locker rooms.

USE OF CELL PHONES AND OTHER MOBILE RECORDING DEVICES

  • Cell phones and other devices with recording capabilities (voice, photo, or video) are prohibited in locker rooms and changing areas.
  • Per USA Swimming Athlete Protection Policies: 305.3 Use of audio or visual recording devices, including a cell phone camera, is not allowed in changing areas, restrooms, or locker rooms.

MISCONDUCT

  • Any suspected or observed locker room misconduct must be reported following Metroplex Aquatics’ grievance procedure.
  • The President and Head Coach will gather information, assess behavior, and apply consequences if necessary.

If the behavior violates the SafeSport Code, USA Swimming Code of Conduct, Athlete Protection Policies, or local laws, the US Center for SafeSport, USA Swimming, and local law enforcement (if applicable) will be contacted within 24 hours.
